Is Peak Oil Real?

Peak oil was first discovered and put forth by M. King Hubbert who first discovered that US oil production would peak between 1965 and 1970. After peak oil was reached, the US would steadily decline in the amount of oil that it produced.

Basically what happens once a large oil supply is tapped, is there is a point in time where the majority of the oil will be extracted and therefore, the oilfields will produce less and less oil per year until it runs out. For political and control reasons, major governments around the world, especially the corrupt ones, have overstated their oil reserves by up to as much as 40 to 60%. Just this past year Wikileaks released a US State Department cable which revealed the fact that the Saudis have overstated their oil reserves by 40%. This was reported by Time magazine, the Guardian UK, and many other worldwide news media organizations.

Wikipedia’s listing on Peak Oil States that:

Peak oil is the point in time when the maximum rate of global petroleum extraction is reached, after which the rate of production enters terminal decline. This concept is based on the observed production rates of individual oil wells, and the combined production rate of a field of related oil wells. The aggregate production rate from an oil field over time usually grows exponentially until the rate peaks and then declines—sometimes rapidly—until the field is depleted. This concept is derived from the Hubbert curve, and has been shown to be applicable to the sum of a nation’s domestic production rate, and is similarly applied to the global rate of petroleum production. Peak oil is often confused with oil depletion; peak oil is the point of maximum production while depletion refers to a period of falling reserves and supply.

So what does this mean? It means the Third World that is so poor and full of poverty, starvation, war, misery, suffering, etc. is not going to be developed into a prospering economic powerhouse with fossil fuels. There simply is not enough oil for the 6 1/2 billion people on the planet to live like those do in the developed countries.

Oil is central to the safety and security of any nation that depends upon oil for its energy source. The US government saw it to be strategically advantageous for the US military to become involved in maintaining the stability of the Middle East. When the politicians couldn’t get the job done, they used the US military industrial complex and war to achieve, as one diplomat once referred to military force as being… “foreign-policy by other means”.

So what are the solutions? ColdFusion? Solar? Wind? Free or zero point energy also known as vacuum energy where the power source taps into the field of energy, universal intelligence, God, invisible force, etc. that is holding this world together that you and I see as the physical universe around us? Our bodies are made-up of particles and empty space that blink into and out of existence 60 million times a second! The quantum theory Nobel Prize winning quantum physicist Max Planck, described it this way:

“As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about the atoms this much. There is no matter as such. Matter doesn’t exist the way that we think it does. What we see as matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force and we must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter. This mind is what underlies the intelligence that we see as the world around us.”

Quantum theory Nobel prize-Max Planck 1918

The solutions are going to come from the private sector. What it is and what it looks like in the future is uncertain, but I believe in the Steve Jobs, Elon Musk’s, Max Planck’s, Albert Einstein’s, etc. of the world. I don’t believe in politicians. Necessity is the mother of invention. All we have to do is look at what happened in the 1970s with OPEC’s oil embargo to the West. Cars only got 3 to 4 miles to the gallon when the embargo hit. A few years later, millions of Americans were driving smaller and more fuel-efficient cars that got 20 miles to the gallon.

When I look at companies like Tesla Motors whose technology performance wise, is absolutely kicking the shit out of any electric or hybrid technology that the big automakers have presented to consumers, I know good things are headed our way. Humanity is going to be just fine. Tesla Motors is about to release its Model S that’s 100% electric and with a $50,000 base price in 2012. The cars do 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds and the battery gets 300 miles to a charge! The Chevy Volt can’t touch that! Why do you think Toyota invested $100 million dollars in Tesla and gave them a large California automotive manufacturing facility? Duh! No brainer! Elon Musk is a rock star! His track record is 100% in creating successful multimillion-dollar companies. PayPal, SpaceX, etc.

I think in the next decade, electric cars are going to be the norm, and the internal combustion engine will slowly be relegated to museums, hobbyists, collectors and the dustbin of history. I am excited to see what the world’s best scientists and inventors come up with!

The following is an e-mail I got from a coaching client of mine. He works for a defense contractor that is part of the US military-industrial complex. He builds weapons and systems that kill and destroy. He’s head over heels in love with an absolute goddess (he’s got a great coach). He’s also starting to get tired of building things that destroy, and he has been contemplating putting his engineering talents into something that is constructive. His nickname is William Wallace, after Mel Gibson’s character in the movie Braveheart. My comments are (in bold brackets like this) in the body of his e-mail:

Hey Corey,

Hope all is well and you got through the hurricane without any damage (hit up north in the Carolina’s. I’m in south Florida. We got lots of rain).

I got stuck in Italy because flights to Texas were cancelled due to the hurricane.  Too bad, huh?  Stuck in Italy with my gf :) (indoor olympics!)

I have spent the morning catching up on your articles.  Nice work bro!  Lots of fascinating information and insight (All in my effort to educate, inform and enlighten people so they can be more interesting and fascinating people themselves).

Anyway, I was wondering if you have done any research on peak oil (ohhhh yea).  Mike Ruppert has a good book called Collapse and their is a documentary on Netflix called Collapse (its excellent, you should check out Gashole also) as well.  This man is legitimately disturbed by the neglect on this topic by the average human. The reason I ask is because I think about it every day and I believe I want to get into the energy sector of engineering (You could get a job at Tesla Motors. I can help you pull that off. Get stock in lieu of a big compensation plan, and make millions like my friend who made $40 million working for Aol in the 90′s).  I am also pondering studying agriculture.  The only reason I am in Italy right now is because of broken down plants and animals from millions of year ago being combusted in the turbine engine of an airplane?!  (yep, and we’re all getting fucked by oil tycoons. They don’t care. Its nothing personal. Its just business). I ate a banana that grew thousands of miles away.

There are nearly 7 billion people on the planet.  200 years ago I think there were less than 1 billion, perhaps less than 500 million, not positive.  Human Population vs. Time graphs coincide with the discovery of fossil fuels.  Fossil fuel supplies are finite. (every human, every blade of grass, every organism, animal, amoeba, etc. is here because its the lords will. When your times up, your times up!).

There was a guy in his early 20s that invented a mechanism to allow his car to travel on the order of 200 miles on 1 gallon of gasoline and he was later found dead in the deserts of Arizona, presumably murdered by those with conflicting interests (Big Oil)  I forget his name. (Me too. This guys story was discussed in the documentary Gashole that I have a link to below. Shell Oil bought his invention and patent in the 50′s and it has not been seen or heard of since. It was strictly a business decision on their part to bury the technology. As far as offing the inventor? Who knows. Corporations and governments were way more brazen and corrupt back then, so its possible they bumped him off. Nobody knows. He died under strange circumstances).

I think this is a good topic for an article and I would like to know your thoughts on this (yep, thanks for suggesting it).

I will get in touch when I get back to the USA on Wednesday or Thursday (I look forward to it!).

Thanks again for all you do.

Peace brotha.
